Most people even non Christians know the story of Jesus’s birth, how he was born of a virgin in the stable. But do you know why it is important or do you know that it is important?

First, yes it is important. As a matter of fact without the miracle of the virgin birth then nothing Jesus did after that would matter.

Why does it matter? Great question! There are a couple of reasons why it matters. First the Old Testament told us hundreds of years before it happened that Jesus would be born of a virgin. So in order for the Bible to be truthful and without error the prophecy had to be fulfilled.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. NKJV

The second reason it is important and one could argue the most important reason is, our sin nature comes from the seed of the man. How do we know this? Well as always the Bible tells us.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—NKJV

Had Jesus been born in the natural way he would not have been sinless or without sin and therefore would not have been the perfect sacrifice to take the punishment for us. Jesus was tempted the same as us but he never sinned, he was and is perfect.

Adam the first man sinned and he passes that sin on to each one of us. But Jesus was born of the women without the original sin being passed on to him.

The third reason it matters is more a matter of God is awesome and if the Son of God is to come down to earth and be born as a man it could only be done in an amazing, beautiful miraculous way. And being born of a virgin which is impossible to do unless you are God, is the perfect way for God to be born into this world.

I hope this devotional is a blessing to you.
